Grove Hill Academy

Early Childhood Educational Philosophy

Grove Hill Academy (GHA) strives to provide relationship oriented, developmentally appropriate early education for infants – preschoolers. We understand that early education is a developmental process of the whole child – requiring attention to the social, emotional, physical, cognitive and spiritual domains. Many early childhood programs emphasize learning routines, social skills, knowing the names of shapes, colors, days of the week, and other narrow goals thought to be important for starting school. Yes, our program prepares children for continued schooling, but our focus is preparing children for life – lives of joy, creativity, and love for the process of understanding our world. We approach our mission with an overarching commitment to respect for the child, the child’s family, and the child’s potential as a citizen within the broader community.

A program’s educational philosophy is evident within its curriculum but also through the daily interactions among staff, families, and children engaged in a caring community of learners. Due to our philosophy and the critical partnerships we envision, it is critical that families understand and support the philosophy and mission of the program. We desire to learn about your family, your routines and rituals and the goals that you have for your child. Likewise, we expect you to understand our philosophy and mission and respect the experience and commitments that we exhibit through our child-centered approaches to early care and education. We intend to be a dynamic program that holds to long established tenets of best practice yet also embraces innovations through research and inspired programs from around the world.

Grove Hill Academy is currently licensed through the Alabama Department of Human Resources and will begin to seek national accreditation following the first year of operation.
